Zoneminder and Digikam

Technology has really advanced in the last few years and we are now able to do stuff that we thought were completely impossible a few years ago. This has not only helped us in live our lives better but also made it easier. Also this new advance technology also allows us to better serve the society, if this technology is used well. One such example is the presence of surveillance cameras and CCTV that have worked very well in reducing the number of crimes and increasing the number of criminals that have been caught. This technology is further enhanced and used even better by the use of different software and programs that allow us to make full use of them.

One such software is Zoneminder. Zoneminder is the best Linux video camera surveillance and security solution. You can use Zoneminder on your Linux operating system with the use of Ubuntu. It is easily one of the best ways to watch surveillance footage and is used worldwide. The best way to use it is to have 4 Dome CCTV cameras hooked up Kodicom kmc-8800 capture card. Also try use infrared LED’s which allows the camera to look in the dark. Zoneminder also works well with IP cameras, but unfortunately they are very expensive and would not be a good option for many. But I f you can afford it than it is the best choice you have. These are just a few tips on how to best utilize your CCTV footage using Linux, but there is a lot more that you can still do to enhance your surveillance.

Another great new technology is the digiKam. DigiKam is a reliable image organizer and editor using KDE platform. It should work on most desktops and window mangers if required libraries are installed. It’s compatible with all major image formats, and is good at organizing collections of photographs in dynamic albums by date, tags and timelines. Users are also able to add ratings and captions to the images, search for them and store searches for later. With various plug ins you can also add your photos to Flickr, Facebook, Google Maps, Google Earth, Gallery2, Piwigo, create web galleries and burn them on CD.

No matter what you use these great software and programs for, you have to give credit to the developers for making something that has a whole lot of benefits and highlight the great use of technology.
