Firefox 4 is already out and people have started putting their geeky efforts to reveal the related tips. Firefox 4 packed with useful tricks and features that can make your online life easier. Now, in this post we will talk about tips and tricks that could make your Firefox 4 experience even more fundamental pleasant.

1# Useful Keyboard Shortcuts
Ctrl+T = opens a new tab
Ctrl+W = shuts a tab
Ctrl+L = takes you to the location bar
Ctrl+K = to the search box
Ctrl+D = to bookmark the current page or simply click on the star icon in the location bar
Ctrl and Plus sign = zooms in
Ctrl and minus sign = zooms out
Ctrl and zero = resets to 100%

2# Firefox Sync
The miracle about the new firefox sync is that it allows users to keep their data safe in the simplest manner. And the beauty of sync is that it syncs happen in the background, seamlessly, allowing for a very pleasant, non-intrusive experience overall.

To set it up, go into Preferences > Sync and click on Create A New Account. You’ll need to enter an email address and a password here. Firefox encrypts your stuff so passers-by can’t access it, and the Sync setup will create a unique key for you.
*Please take note: you’ll need to provide the key so that Firefox can decrypt your data on another machine.

3# Firefox App Tabs
One of our favourite features in Firefox 4 is its Chrome-style App Tabs, which is the idea of pinned tabs. When you make a tab into an App Tab, its tab glows when it’s updated. Simply right-click on the tab and choose Pin as App Tab.

4# Firefox Tab group
Too many open tabs? How to organise them into groups? Once you’ve opened a bunch of tabs, click on the Tab Groups button at the top right of the browser. You’ll see the interface change to a collection of thumbnails. Default Firefox puts everything into one group only. How to create another group? Just simply draw it in the blank grey area using the mouse, or drag a thumbnail out of the group into that area.

5# Modify Rich results
By default Firefox only will suggest 12 results, how can we add more?

Type “about:config” in the address bar. You will get a warning page mentioning “This might void your Warranty”. Click on the button saying “I’ll be careful, I promise!” to continue editing the configuration settings of Firefox.

Search for “browser.urlbar.maxRichResults”. Then, right click the value and click Modify to change the set value. (The default value of this config is 12 which means 12 suggestions. )

Set the value according to your choice. Say if you wish to get 20 suggestion then enter 20.

6# Change the Session Restore Saving Frequency
Do you know firefox keeps saving your browsing session in every 10 seconds? This helps in restoring the tabs when Firefox crashes. Although there is crash control feature in Firefox 4 but still you can use it as a handy tool.

Type “about:config” in the address bar. Search for “browser.sessionstore.interval”. The default value of this config is 1500 (value is in msec, i.e. equivalent to 1.5 sec) in Firefox 4. Right click to modify it.

Set the value according to your choice. Say if you wish to get this session restore saving frequency as 1 sec then enter 1000. If you want 1 min then enter 60000.

Enjoy~
